No Volume Slider on Volume Change via Keyboard Buttons

Hi,

When I press the volume up and down buttons on my keyboard all other computers I've had including my previous dell laptops have displayed an On Screen Display (OSD) volume slider which shows the new volume level.  The new laptop (DELL Inspiron 15R Special Edition / 7520) does not.

I have done some googling and QuickSet.exe is suggested as a solution, it is running in the background but not in task bar.  Windows+X key brings up "Mobility Center" but I can't see any relevant options. Restarting explorer/desktop as some posts have suggested doesn't change anything.

The "Volume Control" in the task bar also doesn't appear to have any relevant options.

First off, should I see a tray icon or have Dell changed it so its no longer there?  If it should be there, any ideas?

Other than that any idea how to get a "volume slider" show up OSD? Is there a thrid party program I can use?

Thanks for any help

Dennis

Hi dbareis ,

Welcome to the Dell Community.

I sincerely apologize for the inconvenience caused to you.

Dennis, it appears that although the service for the Dell Quickset application is running but the application has become corrupted.

Try reinstalling the Dell Quickset software from the link below:

Hi, uninstall and reinstall did not make a difference, I didn't think it would as I'd already tried a repair.

Hi dbareis ,

Thank you for replying and following the steps provided.

Dennis, as the issue still persists, I would request you to follow the steps in the order they are listed.

Kindly update the audio driver on your system. Follow the links mentioned below to do the same:

Audio Driver:

Sorry but the audio driver didn't make a difference, the quickset is what I downloaded before.  Thanks for your help but I'm guessing it doesn't work (well) on 64 bit systems.  My solution is to install some freeware: "volume 2" volume slider

That works very well.

Hi--My volume bar suddenly disappeared from the screen.  The icon is still in the bottom bar, but when I hit the volume buttons, the volume display no longer comes up.  I tried to install the Dell Quickset, but it won't finish the Wizard as it says the application is not supported,  I tried to download the other "fix' that you recommended, the audio file, but it too would not download correctly.  It unzipped the files but then said it couldn't finish; the error box says: "Driver Installation Failed: Could not find the device for this driver."

Do you have any suggestions?  I would like to get the volume bar back on. Thanks.
