No sound for Dell Inspiron 1521 Vista 32 bit OS
My laptop is about 5 yrs old and suddenly my sound stopped working. I did "system restore" , but sound only worked for a day. also ran dell diagnostic tests and all of them passed. checked the any audio driver updates but everything looks good. I searched in the forum...tried all the solution but no result yet...please help!!!
and I have SigmaTel high definition audio CODEC installed and its working but when you try to test it...Error msg pops up "Failed to play test tone"
Any suggestions will be helpful...

Hello. Did you go through the Laptop Audio FAQs (the 1st post on the discussion board)? The one to start with is the "No Audio" FAQ. As you go through the items in the FAQ you will narrow down the problem so that a diagnosis of the cause may be possible.
Try System Restore again.
Do the sense pin test.
If that passes, then run the Dell Diagnostics audio tests if you have not already done so. Be sure that is the test you use.
Reinstall the Sigmatel audio driver. If that doesn't work then download a fresh copy of the driver.
