Possible to swap 720p screen in Inspiron 17R N7110 for a 1080p one?

Hi,

I have bought the Dell Inspiron 17R N7110, but am getting fed up of it's glossy screen, and was wondering if it's possible to swap the screen for the screen from another dell laptop that is full HD (1080p) and matt finish?

If anyone can shed any light on this I would appreciate it.

Kind regards

George

Hi ejn63,

That was a lightning fast reply, thanks! OK so the Inspiron 17" range only has displays up to 900p.. so I guess that's a no then.

Thanks

Only if the system ships with that option, AND you get a model screen known to work with your model system.  Otherwise, you will likely find the upgrade will fail.  Notebooks work only with those screens shipped with the model line - anything else either likely won't work outright or won't work fully (backlight controls reversed, no backlight, etc.).

I just swapped the LCD Panel in a Dell inspiron 17r N7110 with a 1920x1080 1080p panel. It came with a 900p panel

I used a LP173WF1(TL)(B2) panel.

I have a Inspiron 17R N7110 with a 900p panel. Would you tell me more about the 1080p panel installation and where you got it? I just got a Bluray write for mine. The 1080p panel would be a nice addition.

They are available

www.laptopscreen.com/.../LP173WF1%28TL%29%28B2%29

You will also need to replace the display cable -- the harness that runs between the mainboard and LCD.  The one for your current screen will not work with a higher-resolution panel.

If your system is under warranty note that changing the screen will void the warranty.

Thank you very much for the link. I found some one eBay, but they were more expensive. The display cable, do you have a link for it as well?

How is your 1080p screen working? Is the picture much better?

Sorry to the revive the old thread but wanted to post some info. A display cable swap is not required. The cable in this laptop is already a Dual LVDS cable. So you just need to swap the LCD. Make sure you pickup the right lcd per the model number I posted above. There are quite a few that you can acquire for less than $100.
