Power problem

I bought an Inspiron n7110 in either Feb or March of 2012 from a computer store in my town. It was running great until January of this year. I was using it to type an email and it just shut off on me unexpectedly. I tried to turn it back on, but it wouldn't turn on. When I plugged the charger into it, the light on the charger shut off and still does it when I plug it in to the laptop. I even tried to use a battery from my friend who has the same kind of laptop and that still didn't work. I'm not computer smart in any way, so I have no idea what it could be. Hopefully someone can help me narrow down what could be the problem with my computer.
