Precision M3800 yellow area appeared on the screen

Dear all,

My Dell workstation Precision M3800 got the problem of brown/yellow are on the upper right corner of the screen few months ago, and now, sometimes I saw it appeared on upper left corner too.

After about 10 minutes after starting/turning on, they are gone.

That problem happened all the time when I turn on my laptop.

Could you please help me to find out what is the problem and how to solve it?

I still have the warranty covered until July 2017. Should I send my laptop for warranty?

I hope to have your advices!

Thank you!

Hi,

Thank you for writing to us!

We would suggest you to connect an external monitor to check if the same yellow patch comes up.

Kindly also private message the service tag to the system.

Thanks

Robin

Dear Robin,

Sorry for late reply! I was busy with my fist paper.

I did connect my laptop with an external monitor and I saw that the problem appeared only on laptop screen. On external screen, everything was perfect.

Is this possible to send it for warranty? I really do not want to do it because I will not have any laptop to work with.

You will want to start by calling Dell support in your location.  However, from the image you posted, this looks like it's impact damage -- if the Dell support technician agrees with that (as the person likely will), it'll be considered accidental damage, which the warranty will not cover.

It's worth a try, but it looks like the system was damaged.

Thanks!

But the thing was that I did not do anything wrong, like drop it or something likes that!

Sure!

I will! Thank you for your advice! I hope they could help me with some reasons so I can avoid something to damage it!

It looks like something pressed against the cover - say when it was being carried in a backpack or case with other items.  As the covers have become thinner and thinner, the potential for pressure damage on the LCD has increased markedly - it takes surprisingly little pressure to damage the diode layer between the glass panes. However, it's worth asking - but one way or another the panel needs to be replaced.
