Problem with my external mic.

I have been using my logitech headphones with mic for at least a year. Yesterday the mic stopped working. The headphones work great. I have reviewed the settings and tried to record in the test area for windows. Then I tried in audacity but all I hear is static. I cannot figure this out. I updated the sigmatel hd audio codec last night but it still doesn't work. I use my mic alot to make phone calls on skype. Can someone help please.
