Replaced ATI 9700 in Inspiron 9100, now screen is black.

I recently replaced the ATI 9700 graphics card in my Inspiron 9100 with another one (same graphics card model, replaced because after using the original for 5 years, it started to go bad and flicker a lot).  Screen now displays fine in VGA mode (640x480) and in Safe Mode, but when I attempt to use any resolutions above 640x480 the screen just goes completely black.  I've tried to update the BIOS from A03 to A06 and have also uninstalled the original ATI 9700 driver and downloaded and installed the ATI 9700 driver from Dell.  Anyone have any ideas on why I can't see the screen if I go above 640x480?
