Replacing N5010 720p screen with XPS 1080p one

Hi,

I'm looking to replace my current 1366x768 15.6" screen with one from an XPS 15z that has a 1920x1080 screen. As far as I can tell (by looking at Dell replacement parts online) it seems as though the new screen should fit perfectly due to the same dimensions and the connectors used in both are the same (40 pin connectors) I'm just curious as to whether or not it will actually work.

My n5010 has an ATi Mobility 5650HD card so it has the ability to output in 1080p obviously through the HDMI port, however I'm unsure about the maximum output over LVDS. Also I've found out from another forum that different cables are used for HD displays and FHD displays meaning I'd have to get a FHD cable as well.

Any and all help appreciated.

Don't count on it -- notebooks are coded to work only with those LCD models shipped with that model line.  Anything else is a big gamble.

Hi!

I'm curious if you've ever sorted this problem. I'm running into the exact same issues right now. I've tried to install a 1080p screen but apparently there is no FHD display cable compatible with the video port on the N5010 motherboard. Any feedback would be appreciated.
