Resolution changes when lid is used to wake from sleep mode

Dell XPS M1530

Windows Vista Home Premium 32-bit

When I close the lid which I have set to put the laptop into Sleep mode and then re-open the lid to wake/resume from sleep mode, my resolution is immediately reduced from 1440  x 900 down to 1024 x 768.

The Nvidia settings appears on the taskbar notification area and prompts with the following:

Your display image quality can be improved...
Your display is designed to run optimally at a resolution of 1440 x 900. To use this resolution and improve your image quality, click this balloon.

I have to click that prompt to bring back my resolution to 1440 x 900.

This only happens when I use the lid to wake up from sleep mode.

This is extremely annoying. Any idea what is wrong and how I can stop my resolution from changing?

I have found the solution which is really a workaround.  It's a known Vista bug.  Surprised no one else commented on having same issue.

You have to stop the TMM (Transient Multi-monitor Manager) service.

The resolution is changed when you open the lid of a Windows Vista-based portable computer to resume from sleep mode

Cool man yeah I hated it cause I put icons in the bottom right of my screen and would have to open the setting switch the resolution and then back to what I wanted if I wanted to put the icons all the way back in the courner, now i needto figure how to bring back the clock and stuff on the right side of the screen

I tried this solution and it did not work for me, I have a 2 week old XPS 1530 with the Nvidia GeForce 8600M GT Video Card.  The resolution is reduced when I start the computer or when I open the lid to bring it out of the sleep mode.  Very frustrating and dissapointing for a very expensive practically new laptop.

I have a brand new (1 week old) XPS 1330 Laptop and had the problems of the resolution changing when I closed the lid and in effect put the laptop to "sleep" or whenever I started or restarted Windows Vista.

Even though you have the latest driver you must download the driver from Dell, in my case the NVIDIA GeForce 8400 m gs (NIVIDIA tells you to download from Dell). Be sure to save the download and do not select install when you are at the initial download. Uninstall the driver from Control Pannel/Device Manager. When you reboot it will install a temporary driver which comes up at the lowest resoulution.

Then you go to the download "exe" file and click for the install.

The Windows fix of disabling the Task Scheduler TMM is NOT REQUIRED.
