SD Card Reader Stopped Working

My SD card reader suddenly stopped working.  Of course, my warranty expired last week.  Up until a couple of days ago, it was fine.  But, now the computer doesn't seem to recognize any SD cards when they are inserted.  I haven't done many changes to the computer lately other than a Dell tech "taking over" my computer to address some driver issues with my USB ports.

Hi REObroker ,

Please let me know the system model and the operating system installed so that I can help you in a better way.

Also, since when are you facing this issue?

Thanks & Regards

Dell N7110 running Windows 7.  I know I used the card reader a week or two ago, but noticed yesterday that it wasn't recognizing the device.

Four of the five drivers appear to have installed fine.  But I had a problem with USB3_Dell_WIN-A04_Setup-JTDY2_ZPE.exe.  The top of the screen says: Renesas Electronic USB 3.0 Host Controller Driver Error.  Below, it says: Error 2738. Could not access UB Script run time for custom action.  The top of the next screen says: Feature transfer error.  The bottom of the screen says: Error-1603 Fatal error during installation. Consult Windows Installer Help (Msi,chm) or MSDN for more information.

Hi REObroker,

Let me know if the SD Card is working properly after installing the drivers.

Also, is the SD Card working on a different computer?

Thanks & Regards

No, my computer still doesn't read any SD card and my SD cards work fine on other computers.

Hi REObroker,

Thank you for the reply.

Are you using the inbuilt media card reader or an external USB SD card reader.

If you are using external SD card reader, perform the steps mentioned below:

1. Click Start > Type devmgmt.msc in the Search box
2.  Click OK for Device Manager to open
3. Expand Universal Serial Bus controllers

NOTE: You might have to scroll down the list to find this item.

4. Right-click first USB controller under Universal Serial Bus controllers > click Uninstall to remove it
5. Repeat step 4 for each USB controller that is listed under Universal Serial Bus controllers

Restart the computer. After the computer starts, Windows will automatically scan for hardware changes and re-install all the USB controllers that you uninstalled.

Connect the external SD card reader.

You can also try performing system restore for the date the system was working properly. Click the link mentioned below for more information:

NOTE: System Restore will remove the applications installed after the restore point but will not remove any data files.

Thanks & Regards
