SHUT DOWN - without warning , not temperature problem
Hi there , the problem is simple, but no one have solution yet. T___T
Problem - Notebook shuts down without warnings , while I play some games :
World of warcraft , Elders scroll V : Skyrim (IV : oblivion) , Vampire the masquerade : Bloodlines.
It hasn't shuted down on those games : Mass effect (1 , 2 ), Darksiders II , Kings Bounty Armored Princess
it is NOT temp problem. I have warranty m and tech service
1 - make some kind of cleaning
2 - asked to buy cooling pad (cooling stand)
3 - changed motherboard an cooling system , installed new termo-gel
4 - said :"It is not technical problem, go to the game support" , or make a downgrade.(WHY should I double pay?!)
If it would be only one game - I would forget about it.
I have DXdiag , MSinfo32 , files, i would like to stick here , but don't know how to.
also I have temperature logs , where you can see, that on 100+ °C i can play (sometimes) , but 72 - it can shut down in a moment.
i've done memory tests (memtest86)
can you help to find some kind of test, to find real problem and I could get it solved with warranty service , or any other way (upgrade ,NOT downgrade)

Hi there!
You may use the "Get Help Now" option at the bottom right to chat with a Dell technician right away.
You may also try the following steps to isolate the issue.
Restart the system, as soon as you see the Dell splash screen; keep tapping the 'F2' key multiple times (once every two seconds) which will take you to the 'BIOS' screen. Leave the system ON in the same screen for couple of hours and check if it shuts down.
If it doesn't shut down, updating the BIOS, Notebook System Software, Chipset and Video driver should fix the issue. The following links will help you download the necessary drivers.
Link for BIOS: http://dell.to/VAY124
Please connect the Ac Adapter while updating the BIOS and do not use the system once the update is initiated and until the system restarts completely.
Link for Notebook software: http://dell.to/QRg9la
Link for Chipset driver: http://dell.to/OZnWLP
Link for Video driver: http://dell.to/RTfLaw
Once you open the above link, you will see a list of drivers available. Select the driver for the video card model of the system and install the application.
The drivers have to be installed in the same order as mentioned above and please restart the system after every driver installation.
I hope this helps
Please let us know in case of any queries
Thanks and regards

Hi Shrirama,
I would suggest you to run Diagnostics on the system to check if any of the hardware components are failing. Please try the following steps to run the ‘Diagnostics’.
Restart the system and as soon as the system restarts, keep tapping the ‘F12’ key multiple times on the keyboard. You will see the ‘One Time boot menu’, select ‘Diagnostics’ from the list. This will run a variety of tests and once done, it would give you an option to continue and exit. Select ‘Exit’ and Press any key to continue. Then select ‘Test System’, ‘Custom Test’ and run all the tests selecting ‘Graphic/Video card’.
Make a note of any error messages and provide the message while replying.
Please let me know in case of any queries.
Thanks and regards

first - i've installed new bios.
- Chipset driver
- system utility.
last - video driver. there was a little problem on it. i had downloaded from ATI , so driver were more complicated .
CCC e.t.c. so needed to uninstall , and then install.
driver had fewer features.
Shutdown problem havn't gone.
after all of that i've placed laptop in bios for 3 hours , then "Unigine heaven" video test
DirectX 11 ,
Tessellation - extreme
shaders - low
Anisotropy - off
stereo 3d - disabled
anti-aliasing - off
ful screen
resolution - system (1920 - 1080)
havn't shuted down till morning (about 10 hours)
but if i'll play WoW it'll turn off.
as well as Skyrim or VTMB.
BUT , as I said , some games go without problems.
any suggestion about it ?

maybe, i've done something wrong , but ,
after first bunch of memory and cpu tests it want to continue.
I've said yes - it completed , then wanted to restart.
if , after first pack of tests I answer "no"
it restarts anyway , and it's end of tests.
after first pack is sentence : "No problems have been found with system so far. Do you want to run remaining memory tests? This will take about 30 minutes or more.
Do you want to continue? (recommended)
Yes or No
after I press "no" it shows me message :
"Pre-boot System assessment complete. No Diagnostic Utility Partition identified. Please select OK to reboot your system.
*It looks, like I just don't have it =___=
*Today it shuted down on video file, watched with Media Player Classic (mpc) .
previously , it sometimes happened , but in VLC it havn't shuted down.
can it (player) be the reason ? (I don't think it work in games)
(now i'm downloading k-lite codec pack x64. there is no player, so I skipped it)

Hi Shirama,
The reason why the test is not going further is that there is no "Utility Partition" on the system. You may initiate the diagnostics using a 'Resource CD'. Please try the following steps to initiate the diagnotics.
Insert the 'Drivers and Utilities' disk sent along with your system. After inserting the disk, shutdown the system and keep tapping the 'F12' key during the system startup. You will see the ‘One Time boot menu’, select ‘CD/DVD drive’ from the list and press any key to continue. Select "Boot to Utility partition". Then select ‘Test System’, ‘Custom Test’ and run all the tests selecting ‘Graphic/Video card’.
Please let me know in case of any errors with the complete message
Thanks and regards

Hi Shirama,
Yes, you can download and burn the 'Dell 32bit diagnostics' on to a blank disc. Please download the file named CW1367A0.exe from the following link:
http://dell.to/SgobmF
Once the file is downloaded, double click on it and follow the onscreen instructions to unzip the contents. An application will open with four options, please insert a blank disk and select the option which allows you to burn the diagnostics directly on the disc. Once done, you may follow the diagnostics steps from the previous post to check for any possible hardware failures.
Please let me know in case of any other queries.
Thanks and regards

I had this exact same problem.. my temp sensors saying my gpu was only at 70C and it shut down.
This problem happened for me only playing WoW since Mists of Pandaria came out and the solution that has worked for me is in the game launcher, before you hit play, go to preferences and switch it back to 32bit client and change from Directx 11 to 9.
Hope it helps, it's what solved my problems with my laptop just shutting off like it lost all power when not overheating

I havn't say, but problem was since I buy it , but I was abroad,so couldn't give it to warranty service.
so.
I've checked , runned all the test there were , except for usb mouse , microphone ( trough side jack) e.t.c.
there were no errors.
as , if I run it from Flash drive (not CD, as I planned) ,
and - in-Windows diagnostic .
none help in it .
the REAL problem is , that it shuts down at random.
sometimes it goes well for hours, sometimes for 5 minutes.
I just don't know what to do.
