Stuck with recovery

Hi Folks,

I was doing a factory restall and it froze, so I turned it off.  Then the pc needs to be repaired screen come on ,but hitting f8 doesn't do anything nor does f2 or f12. I have my recovery CDs but without those keys not doing anything, I'm at a loss.  Am I stuck with big paper weight?

What model of Dell? Ensure that its powered off completely and not on standby. Hold down the power button for a couple minutes.

Do you get the Dell BIOS screen before the Windows 8 recovery screen? Have you tried a USB keyboard?

I've tried that just takes me back to the this pc needs to be repaired screen. I've tried all the f key. a billion times and still have the blue screen. I've done factory installes before so. I know the feel.

I was doing a new install and it was stuck so I turned it off and that is when I got the pc needs to be repaired came up

I don't think anything is wrong with my keyboard, if that's what you mean.

Thanks for reply, NAtakuc4

Remove the AC adapter, remove the battery. Hold down the power button for at least 30 s. Then preplace the battery and AC adapter. Power on the system do you see the Dell logo (if so press F12).

The problem is you aren't getting to the Dell diagnostics so you can't even press F12 to run diagnostics.

You can try removing the HDD and the RAM and then powering up the system up and down. Then reinsert them and see if you can access the Dell BIOS.

Try to remove the HDD and RAM and then power it up (without the HDD or RAM). Then power it down.

Then reinsert the HDD and RAM. Attempt to power it up and press F12.
