Studio 1735 Blu-ray upgrade trouble

I have a Sudio 1735  with Windows 7 Ultimate and I've tried to upgrade the TSSTcorp DVD+-RW TS-T633A to a Sony Nec Blu-ray drive BC-5600S.  Once installed however it causes my laptop to freeze or hang when I try to view "My Computer" or use Power DVD and the whole system is generally sluggish.  I downloaded the latest firmware upgrades but that would also freeze when I tried to run it.

Also in case I can't find a fix on here, does anyone know of any other compatible Blu-ray upgrades for the 1735?
