Transfering files between LT's to Vista.

I plan to replace my Inspiron 6400 (XP Home) with a new Studio (Vista Home Premium).

What is the best way to transfer my files. I have heard this can be done via a cable conn' (LT to LT) rather than by discs.

I have 12Gb of music shared between WMP and itunes. Should I install itunes off the web before transfering the itunes music files.

Should I reinstall my third party apps' from their discs onto the Studio before the user files.

You can network the two systems, but you can also, for $10, buy a 2.5" SATA drive enclosure, mount the old system's hard drive in it, and copy the files much faster.

I think you should use newer versions of third party software. Do not install or transfer anything that came with the Operating System and Inspiron 6400 to the New Studio. You may use wireless connection to transfer Music, Documents, Pictures and Personal Data. Not software because Vista may need new clean installs. Good luck, =D!
