WiFi and windows problems

Hi

My laptop has stopped working and when trying to connect to the Internet it is asking me to set up a vpn??? Also the windows 8.1 has stopped working and it says windows can't activate right now, I don't know where the product key is as it says current key then has the last 6 characters shown that are not on the box or laptop anywhere, I didn't get any papers discs with the laptop.

Please help it's driving me crazy.

I did reset it back to factory settings if this has caused the problem somehow.
