Windows 10 has caused a repeated Internal Power Failure in Dell Inspiron 7000 series (7548)

Hi. I had a perfectly good Dell Inspiron 7 Series I purchased 6 months ago.

Windows 10 was just installed on my laptop and about 10-15 seconds after I log in there is an error - Internal Power Failure. It happens every time.

It's a bit ridiculous really. It doesn't look like a system restore point is saved by Windows 10 so can't seem to get Windows 8 back.

Some advice would be great.

Thx.

There is an issue with the driver for the secondary graphics card. I disabled it and it fixed my issue (for now). It's just a temporary fix until Dell and AMD get it together. I am annoyed that Dell advertises this PC as being "Windows 10 ready" when it's obviously far, far from that.

I found a permanent solution to the issue after many hours of research. The problem is that during the Windows 10 installation, the computer installs the wrong graphics card driver. It installs the AMD Radeon R7 M265 driver instead of the M270.

Here are the steps to fix the issue.

1. As soon as the computer boots up, login, and then hit the Windows Key button and the X,

2. Go to "Device Manager"

3. Scroll to "Display Adapters / AMD Radeon R7 M265 / Driver/ Disable". This will stop the computer from rebooting.

4. To install the correct graphics driver, just hit "Update Driver" and have it "Search Automatically" for it.

Everything should run smoothly now!

Hi,

There wont be any system restore points however there must be an option in settings to restore the PC to the previous OS.

Click on "Start" , Then "Settings" Open "Update and security".

Navigate to options for "Backup" and "Recovery".  You should see an option to restore the pc to previous build or previous version of OS.

Try it and let us know if that works.

Thanks

Unfortunately, during the installation of windows 10, the computer crashed because it was trying to use the secondary graphics card. Now all native windows applications are corrupted. DO NOT UPDATE TO WINDOWS 10 ON A 7548. DELL LIED ABOUT ITS COMPATIBILITY

After updating to Windows 10 today I have the same ''internal power error'' on a 6 month old dell inspiron with the no information AMD graphics card R7-M270.

Just after booting into the OS  a message ''internal power error'' and the pc reboots.

Have had to restore my laptop to factory settings and thank you Dell for wasting my time.

Luckily, Microsoft has a tool built into Windows 10 that will let you seamlessly downgrade to Windows 8.1 without any previous backup or extra downloads. I'm back on 8.1 without any issues.

Dell has just launched some new Dell Inspiron 7548 with Windows 10 embedded. Maybe we will see the drivers for Windows 10 very soon ?

This issue did not give me enough time to do the roll back.  I did a factory reset back to windows 8.1.  This did not work either.  Been online with support for the last 4 hours and they are not having much luck either.  There solution is to send me a flash drive with a clean version of windows 8 to reinstall..

I had same issue yesterday when trying to restore from windows 10 after the same error "internal_power...on my Inspiron 15 7000.  I was relieved to successfully restore to Windows 8.1 as described by Gokul G "previous OS from the Start, Settings.

So disappointing, seriously! Prefer to be presently enjoying Windows 10 on this beautiful 7000 series laptop, hope the fix is included in the version Windows will be auto pushing through the reservation app.

Are you suggesting to do this after installation of windows 10 and if so, do you have time to complete these steps before it crashes again?

I seem to get varied times before crashing, anywhere from 20 seconds to 90 seconds. It was a race just to get to revert back to win 8.1

Does this fix work on all Inspiron 7000 series?
