XPS 15 9550 Thunderbolt 3 port not configured to advertised speed

There have been several reports of the Thunderbolt 3 port on the XPS 15 9550 (and 13 9350) being configured to a PCI 2x port instead of the more usual PCI 4X port. Users have been reporting speeds of up to 16 Gbps, only half of the advertised speed (40 Gbps) which should be 32 Gbps (with overheads) for data.

The result is significantly reduced TB performance to comparable machines, especially when using an external GPU set up.

If this is not hardwarematically configured as such, it may be possible this could be fixed with a firmware update. What is Dell's position on this?

I have the same concern as well, it is not a huge problem right now but once we have affordable eGPU and razercore like options, this is a huge constraint as the band width is basically half, it is basically a thunderbolt 2.

Can someone in dell, push this up the ladder and clarify this.
