XPS 15 Upgrades

Hi all,

I just purchased an XPS 15 with the new i5-2410 processor.  The laptop comes with 6GB DDR3 RAM, I'd like to upgrade it to 8GB DDR3 1600 PC12800; has anybody tried this and been successful?  Dell has listed DDR3 1333 PC10600 has the replacement/upgrade parts.

Also, I have a Seagate 146GB Cheetah 2.5" 15k.7 6gb/s SAS Drive on-hand and was wondering if anybody has tried to install into their XPS 15, if so did it work?  Not sure if the system board will accomodate the SAS connector.

Otherwise, I ordered a OCZ Vertex 3 120GB SSD, which has amazing Read/Write speeds.  I'm hoping to get windows experience in the high 7s.

If I wanted to replace the tray-load BD-ROM/DVD+/-RW Drive, does anybody know of a good Dell P/N for a BD-RE/DVD+/- Drive?

Thanks for any insight into my upgrade choices.

The RAM can go to 8G (depending on your existing configuration, you may have to replace both modules).

No, you can't use a SAS Cheetah in this system. Even if you could somehow overcome the heat/power requirement issues (they're designed for servers, not notebooks), these are inch-high drives (25.4 mm, that is) -- they won't fit into a system designed to take a 9.5 mm notebook drive.

A standard 2.5" SSD WILL work, though.

The blueray drive is a standard SATA notebook type.

Faster RAM should work, but it'll just downclock - the RAM won't run faster than what you have already, so don't buy the RAM expecting a speed increase - you won't see any.

ELJN63 - Thanks for your reply, I know the system will handle up to 8GB of RAM, my question is actually can I use PC12800 RAM vs. the stock PC10600?

As for the Cheetah drive, I kind of figured that, so that is why I went ahead and purchased the Vertex 3.
