To reiterate, I have the following connections. Not using adapters, just straight cables.
Dock>>>Monitor: HMDI>>>HDMI cable & DP>>>DVI cable
If, as you suspect, the Mini DP and HDMI is Port 2 and the full size DP and VGA are Port 1 AND they are being driven by two separate Synaptics chips, does it stand to reason that if switch to a MiniDP>>>DVI cable I might get more stability?
We'll find out because I just ordered a MiniDP>>>DVI cable...I'll update next week.

Sounds like what you've got now is already balancing the load. You've ordered a mDP to DVI cable which will put both your monitors on the same hub/port #2; vmm3330. But that's fine given the number of variables at play; software config, different cables/displays etc. In fact, since I posted, things have taken a turn: my second monitor started shutting off, and the first monitor went back to behaving how it was (except the mDP reset trick still works).
Sorry if I mislead anyone, it seemed promising as it was working for the first time and for several hours. My configuration may not apply to most since I'm using an adapter for my 4k (UHD) 60p connection but I'll still update here once I receive my new mDP -> HDMI 2.0 adapter (and overpriced HDMI cable).
I'm doing everything I can to address my non-Dell components... patiently waiting for Dell to step up and address any issues relating to the dock. I'm sure there are still things to be ironed out on that side having seen the complaints here.
imremahcp> port/hub in this discussion refers to the same thing: the Synaptics chips in the dock. Thysanoptera referred to the chips as 'ports', then I probably confused it by calling the physical plug (HDMI/DP/mDP/VGA) a 'port'. Which monitors are connected to your dock HDMI and DP plugs?

Just got my xps 15 (9550) and TB15 dock and am experiencing the same problems most of you are. Should I keep messing with this or should I send it back. I really don't have money to replace this if dell doesn't fix it before my warranty runs out, but also don't want to return it right before they put out a patch. Is their any number I can call to speak with their support staff, I paid for their "complete care" for the laptop... This is a horrible mess.
Thank you,
Brandon

Yep, I misread your post and you didn't mislead! Like I said, not too tech savvy! :) After re-reading it, you're correct, I suppose that I am already balancing the load as you say.

Any news on the fan issues? Anyone....? When can we expect a fix for this? In my case for the Precision 5510.
And to be clear: I mean the fan of the laptop blowing as soon as connected to the TB15 dock :emotion-7:

Don't expect Dell support to be very helpful when you call. I was transferred to 6 people by the time I reached someone who even knew what a docking station was and he wasn't up to speed about this issues what so ever. I plan on sending mine back most likely.

I did end up calling Dell Support. I spoke with five different people and had a tech mess with the drivers for about two hours. At the end he found a driver that was updated yesterday (new version released on dell website). The dock worked for about twenty minutes after I finished talking to support and then it died... I have since emailed them and they escalated to the product support team. :emotion-6:

3 weeks and my return is still sitting as "Open - Unassigned."
What really is terrible is the only time I really have to call is on the weekends and they don't answer the phone (or do online chat) over the weekend.
I had my final straw with the dock last night when I was sitting in the other room and just heard it start going though the connect and disconnect sound over and over again. Now nothing I seem to do can keep it connected for more than a few minutes. The thing was working for a full week just fine. Then it just flips out for no reason and dies.
It's just not worth the hassle anymore. I need to get my desktop back up and running for other reasons, so there's not much point in the dock now for me. I could use the $299 elsewhere.
Time to chalk this up as a failed experiment and move on. It will be interesting to see if the Razer Core has similar issues when it comes out next month.
Edit: And as of this morning I have my shipping label finally. That's good at least.

I have brand new XPS 15 9550 with the latest drivers, a TB15 dock, and two Dell P2715Q monitors. At this point, I am only testing with one monitor, since I haven't been able to get that one working yet. It comes on for a couple of minutes and then shuts off. Of course, I'm unable to use the NVidia 960m card in the laptop at all without black-screen crashing. What a disaster.

Docks still not working. We are small biz w/ 35 employees. Trying to replace old HP equipment, we run all notebooks and docks with monitors keyboards/mouse at desks.
Purchased XPS 9550 last month, along with 2 TB15 docks. After updating everything I can sometimes get it to work. However if the laptop ever goes into sleep mode while dock is connected it causes all sorts of havok. The dock stops working and the connection will cycle repeatedly. At this point you have to hard turn off the laptop and power cycle the dock to get it to work (if you are lucky).
Also dock will not work while laptop lid is closed (we run dual monitors).
All sorts of buggy issues. Dell please fix ASAP or stop selling hardware that doesnt work. We need to order 10-15 additional units but cannot until this is resolved.

On the precision 7710, so far the only issue I have had is after I go into the bios setup, I need to power off and reboot the machine a couple of times for the system to see the Thunderbolt USB. The external monitors work, but no USB or Network through the TB.
When this happens, once in windows, if I go to the TB icon in the task bar and check settings and details, there is unknown listed for most the items. I do not have a screen shot of exactly what is shows but will get it if it happens again.
I have not changed the default, but in the bios, there is USB/Thunderbolt Configuration setting. Under it is a security setting. One option is to set as no security (first option). I do not have this selected (it is not default). The second option is default (I need to go back into bios tonight to see what it is called). I wonder if part of the issue is a security issue with the system bios and the TB and maybe selecting the no security option will solve some of the issues. Just a guess.

Are you doing display port linking or are you using each port on the back of the TB15? I'm using all 3 ports on the back (DP, mDP, HDMI) to each screen. I have my power settings to do nothing. I don't see the Dell screen at start up with my lid closed. I'll wait for a bit and open my lid and the start screen is there just waiting.
Did you make any changes in your BIOS. We have 7510's, may test on one of those today.
Thanks
Chris

with the precision 7710 I can keep the lid close with three external DVI screens. In win 10, I set the power options to do nothing with the lid. Not sure if that makes a difference.
