You're in good company here, that's for sure.

I have two XPS 13s (one work, one personal) and I've tried to use two brand-new TB15s at this point. Neither dock worked properly with either laptop-- out of the box, or with the suggested driver updates. I have the same display issues you report. Usually, I can fix them one time by restarting the laptop, but of course that is a terrible workaround for such an obvious product issue. I have an open ticket with customer support and technical support for the issues.

Someone earlier in this thread suggested a "HooToo Shuttle", which is highly-rated. That might work for you if you're driving only one screen from HDMI, but it's not a 1:1 replacement.  That's the big problem with this dock: There's nothing else like the TB15 on the market, and it would be awesome if it worked as advertised. We're all being strung along for the next driver update in hopes that "this next update" will resolve all the issues.

I think you'll find from the earlier comments that the issues are not resolved by updates, not resolved by replacing the product, and in the end you end up with crazy workarounds for the problems. Dell support will undoubtedly tell you to update all the drivers and stuff and keep you on the hook for the next BIOS flash or whatever too. Consider whether you would be better off cutting your losses (in time and frustration) now.

I'll wait for a miracle for a while and then return my dock.

Should've read these posts and Dell facebook page before ordering. This thread have been read almost 5 million times so the problem is quite huge and Dell facebook page looks like a general complain channel.

Weird how something this badly working equipment can be advertised and sold.

Everything works fine with the dock in my situation ... until I try to use some energy saving feature.

I have 2 TB15 docks and a 5510 precision. One TB15 is connected to an 4k Dell display by mini displayport. The other TB15 is connected to an "old" regular dell 24'' display by hdmi2dvi adapter. The notebook bios is on 1.2.

Power through thunderbolt, display, usb devices ... all works.

UNTIL:

1.) I use standby of the precision (suspend to ram). on wakeup the usb devices wont wake up again.

2.) I enable automatic display disabling after some minutes of not using. the display wont wake up again.

My workarounds for that: I disabled power saving of monitors, so they will always stay turned on. Also I don't use suspend to ram... i just suspend to disk (hibernate).

Don't wait.

RETURN IT.

The best message you can send Dell is to make them eat every one of these.
Make the bean counters take notice - many times what it takes to get a corporation's attention

I returned every one of these POS I had

How long do you have until you can return the TB15? I got it when it first came out so it's almost been 3 months since I've had it. I only had high fan noise issue with BIOS 1.1.19 and with BIOS 1.2.0 high fan noise went away but now I'm having intermittent drops with USB and Ethernet ports. Issue occurs randomly so I'm not sure what is trigger it.

First, didn't someone here get Dell support to ACK that there are 'issues' with TB15?
If you are reading this, remind us of that conversation.

I would call and make a big deal about the TB 15 to be a known bad release from Dell.
I would think that they even have someone monitoring this forum.

They know...

Keep calling. I'd bet that if you are persistent and use a bit of social engineering to work your way around the script monkeys.

I try and finally get to someone in TX (or anywhere US). But, if you hang in there, I'll bet you can get it refunded.

A replacement, from all indication here, is not a solution, there is no A1 version yet, so any replacement hardware you'd get it the same as what you had.  Same problems.

I received a replacement dock yesterday from dell support. It took awhile to get and it is still version A00. However so far it works 100%. The dock before had random nonsensical USB issues, my 2nd monitor would drop out. Cooling it with a fan helped the monitor dropping out issue for awhile but eventually all the dock was good for was running one monitor and providing Ethernet. We will see how it goes long term but this is encouraging.

Great Post!

Will you update this article on how TB15 is going to work with linux, e.g. ubuntu/debian/redhat ?

Great Post!

Will you update this article on how TB15 is going to work with linux, e.g. ubuntu/debian/redhat ?

There are a couple of threads on the forums here discussing that, just google Dell TB15 Ubuntu and they'll pop up. Seems to be a couple of hurdles at the moment, but people were reporting that after updating to 16.04 some things were working. But a Dell rep has said there are drivers for the dock they are working on that will be required to get it working in linux. No ETA from what I've seen.

Regarding the device on Windows, I've had it running pretty stable using my little fan setup to cool it down a bit for well over a month now. The only major issue I still have is if my laptop is put to sleep or turns off the monitors sometimes things won't come back up correctly. Like somebody else in here mentioned I've just set my laptop to where when it is plugged into a power source my display does not go to sleep and neither does my laptop and that has worked.

Add me to the list of the screen going out.  On my precision 7710 I have not had this issue on either of my two TB15.  Now this morning, one of the three screens go out and stays out until a reboot.  After reboot, it goes out again after a few minutes.  This is on of my two TB15s.  Just started this morning about 30 minutes after I hooked it up.  I will check the other tonight when I get to the other location.

Got my replacement TB15 and things are all working again.

FYI, Dell did not require me to return the defective unit.  I guess they assume it is not worth repairing.

For my other one, no screen issues; however, daily I lose the network port on the TB and wireless comes on, but if I leave it (do not reboot) the network port comes back up.  I think the time of it coming back is anywhere from 30 to 60 minutes.  I have not timed it.

Called to the Dell support in Finland (because I live in Finland) and they said that they send me a new dock and that I'll get it in one to two days. Well today someone from Germany (because I ordered mine from Germany) called and said that they are out of docks. Couldn't say when they are gonna get new ones.

There is also a new update released today for Thunderbolt but after installing it the TB15 seems to work as well as earlier....

after receiving a new dock everything worked great for two days. The intel display driver crashed once yesterday afternoon but that wasnt a big deal. I put the laptop to sleep, unplugged it (probably while it was trying to go to sleep) and put the laptop away. I powered on the laptop today to an error about it suffering a blue screen. USB is back to stuttering when connected to the dock. 2nd monitor still works but we will see... sign.

Tried the new TB driver. if there is a difference, i haven't found it yet. Everything is as bad as before.

I can find no updated TB15 driver. It is still version 8J86F_WN32_15.3.39.250_A01

That has not changed only the last updated date - I do not believe that is a new driver, just the last time it was refreshed in the download area by Dell. Feel free to correct me if I am wrong but having downloaded the new and compared it side by side to the old I find no differences.
