battery diagnostics? no chance

Hi,
just an experience. My (about 2 years old) GG386 battery seemed to be completely fine (I was able to run my Latitude D420 for about 2 hours on the battery) but then the battery suddenly (it was not a gradual decrease) died. Calling local tech support didn't do any help. I was told that local technical support didn't do any diagnostics on batteries even if I offered to pay for such service. I really try to avoid throwing away battery without knowing what's wrong with it. The problem is maybe just "locked" "Gas Gauge" chip inside the battery. I think local tech support should be able to read out information from this ICs and then for example try to reset "Wear Level" or reset the chip. Throwing away, maybe good battery, isn't enviromental friendly. I'm disappointed.
