connecting laptop to older TV

Hi,

I'm trying to connect my XPS M1530 laptop, running on Vista Ultimate, to an older model Panasonic TV which has only a single RCA cable video input.

I followed the procedures in the laptop manual but my laptop still seems unable to identify/connect with the TV.  I've had no problems playing DVDs on this TV, either directly from the DVD player or through my stereo receiver, again through the RCA video input.

I'm trying an S video output, converted to an RCA input cable.

Any suggestions?  or, is it a waste of time?  According to the manual and menus I've looked at, it should be doable.

Please use plain language, not computer jargon.  My computer knowledge is limited.

Thanks,

Adrian

A 7-pin to RCA cable ( http://www.svideo.com/7svto3rca.html ) should work because on this laptop, the s-video port is 7 pins -- 3 pins for the composite video signals and 4 pins for the s-video signals.

Thanks a lot for replying.

I wondered about that, noticed the 7 pin slots in the laptop output, but the S Video connector I bought has only 4 pins.  Will try to get a 7 pin connector.
