dvd drive not working

my dvd drive is not working. its not reading any media. how many of you encounter this problem??

the service im getting from dell is not satisfactory at all.

they asked me to visit the service station to get it diagnosed. after doing that i called them, and now they want to diagnose it over the phone.

has anybody had any similar kind of experience??
