fluid/liquid on new opened laptop

I just purchased a refurbished Inspiron 1318 laptop. When I opened it up for the first time, I noticed a large amount of some type of liquid or fluid on the hand rest and around the display frame. Some of the rubber bumpers fell off because of the interaction of the adhesive with the fluid.

Does anyone know of refurbs coming with excess liquid on it like that? There's no odor and it has the consistency of oil.

I'm not going to turn it on for fear that the internal circuits may get fried.

I have also contacted the dealer.

I am in the process of contacting the dealer. It's just a shock to see that liquid on a laptop from the factory.

There is no way it should have shipped that way - however, since this model isn't sold by Dell (it came from Wal-mart originally), contact them or the seller from whom you purchased it.

As you suspected, that's not normal and you should return it.

I wouldn't make the assumption that it came from the factory like that - it was shipped to Wal-mart at least, and then marked refurbished - just about anything could have happened to it in the interim.

Maybe someone was trying to clean the display and got carried away with the cleaner.
