inspiron 1370 - 3 beeps at startup

i've opened my laptop following an accident with a glass of beer (full).

the laptop did restart after being left to dry for 2 days. but after a week, it won't start anymore. when i turn it on, the fan and the hard drive start ( i can hear them). then i hear 3 beeps, a pause, 3 more beeps, a pause etc...

what do these beeps mean? please tell me it doesn't involve changing the mother board...

thanks

1-3 is a keyboard controller error.  You can try a replacement keyboard but it sounds more likely it's the controller - which means yes, you will need a new mainboard (and possibly other components, depending on what else might have failed).

Thanks for the info. Keyboard sounds logical as I had issues putting it back on. I'll check the connections for any obvious defects and might try a replacement if not too expensive

According to the DEll web page the 3 beebs = Read or write error occurred in first 64 KB of main memory.

For more info goto:

The DIMM chip set is built unto the motherboard; this error equates to a motherboard failure.

Usual repair = replace motherboard.
