I have had this laptop for less than two months. however today when i open up the laptop, after it is resting it showed a grey screen with zig zag lines. i then restarted the computer and it was fine. this repeatedly occurred throughout the day. what is the issue?

It's either a bad display or mainboard - either way, call Dell for warranty repair.

I had this same exact issue! I bought the laptop back in August, so just about 4 months I've had this laptop (same model). Does it display the Dell Logo at all or let you try to sign in?
The issue I had with mine it only occurred occasionally throughout the day and hasn't done it since.
"The vertical lines appears to be cause by a outdating / corrupt video driver. Since you aren't able to boot into windows to update the BIOS, Chipset and Video driver, I'd suggest checking warranty status by entering the service tag number onto the link below.
