inspiron 1720 - dim display
Cat sat on keyboard and when I returned to the laptop, the display was very dim. Full brightness in windows settings and Fn+Up Arrow does not help. Bios up to date along with all drivers. I am puzzled! Until last night, all was well. OS is up to date Windows 7.

Most computer shops will have one and will likely let you use it to test the system - alternatively, borrow one at work, from a friend, etc.
