inspiron 6400 lcd fault

hi,

i am looking for help to resolve an issue with the above which ran out of warranty 4 weeks earlier.

the monitor starts up and briefly displays the dell loading screen then goes dark, the desktop loads up normally but can only be seen with a torch or perfectly  via an external monitor.

i have replaced the inverter with one compatible with the 6400 but not an exact part number with no difference. i was then thinking pheraps the backlight is faulty untill the screen  visibly loaded up to the desktop before going blank again once and now i am not sure. all cables/connections have been inspected and appear to be ok?

would it boot up to the desktop if the backlight is faulty?

kind regards in anticpation.

The Cold Cathode Fluorescent Lamp is bad.

Thats not a user replaceable part.

Yes. That said, the cost of a bulb replacement is $100-150 - vs. $300+ for a new replacement screen.  You can buy a used screen for about what a replacement bulb service costs - with, of course, the knowledge that you won't know how much life is left in the bulb in the screen you buy.
