Attach an external monitor to verify that the fault doesn't show there.  If it does not, you will need a new display panel.

Hi ArtCampbell,

You may run the Built in Self-Test for the LCD of the system. Follow the steps below to perform LCD diagnostics:

  • Turn off the system
  • Press and hold down ‘D’ key on the keyboard while system is off
  • Now press the power button while holding down the ‘D’ key

If you get the solid colors flashing on the screen and you are still able to see the paw print, the issue is with the LCD and it is needed to be replaced.

Alternatively, you may plug in an external monitor and check if the display comes fine on external monitor or the paw print comes on external monitor as well.

Keep me posted with the findings. I will be glad to assist further.

Following your procedure - computer off. Hold D, press power, start up same as before. That is a tringular "fence" in bottom right corner, obscuring the time and 4 items there. Two quarter "paw prints" then appear above the "fence". The three items remain on the desk top. There was no flashing. Just a bell and then I stopped pressing D.
