please help - touchpad mouse settings keep resetting
i have an inspiron 6000
with the ALPS touchpad/glidestick driver latest one installed.
i like to set the "motion" tab in the "pointer options" menu about 2 notches up
on the speed so that it's faster because the default one is way too slow.
however, each and every time i reboot the computer,
it resets this back to the default slow one.
strange thing is that it will retain every other option that i choose,
except for the "motion" or speed of the mouse cursor that i set.
so i have to do this every time.
does anyone else have this problem or seen a solution?
i have the latest ALPS driver installed from the dell site. and i've messed aroudn with various differnt options. like keeping some on keeping some off,
all the same result. it seems its just the motion one.

Please check to see if you have any other pointer devices installed (drivers, etc.) The most likely candidate, since you purchased a Dell, would be the Logitec Set Point software included with the ubiquitous Logitec Mice that Dell likes to sell. This would be the cause, and uninstalling this software took care of my problem.
To uninstall the software, hold the window key (next to alt on your keyboard), hit "R". This will bring up a run window. Type "appwiz.cpl" and hit enter. This will bring up the add/remove programs window - please note that you may need administrator access to uninstall the program. Once you have located the program in your list, click on uninstall or remove, depending on what OS you have. The system will perform the requested function and ask you to reboot. Reboot, adjust your settings, and reboot once again just to test. The settings should stay the same. If not, repost here and we can troubleshoot.

Hey,
There is an alternate step you can take.
Try the following steps. Doing this should allow you to keep all the settings in the SetPoint software and your touchpad, while at the same time resolving your issue.
1. Click the Start orb, type msconfig in the Start Search box and hit Enter
If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type your password or click Continue
2. Within the System Configuration dialogue box, click the Startup tab
3. Look for any entries named KHALMNPR or similar, and uncheck the box next to them (there may only be one)
4. Click OK and restart your computer
5. After the restart, change your mouse pointer speed and restart
This should resolve your issue. Let me know.

Hey, great - I had this annoying problem, and unchecking KHALMNPR stopped it and I still get all the features of SetPoint - the best of both worlds!

Excellent post! I had the same problem, implemented your solution, and the bug is gone.
I'll tap Logitech on the shoulder and tell them of this problem.
I have a wireless mouse, by the way.

i have a dell inspiron 1545 ,after doing all the ssuggested settings still the problem persists
