"AC Power adapter and battery cannot be determined" warning upon startup.

AC Power adapter and battery cannot be determined" warning upon startup: Latitude E5540

I get this warning each time I start the computer. I have read in the forum that one first step is to put the battery into a like computer and charge it. Where am I supposed to find another one in a little town?

I read other things, but let's start there.

My battery is nearing its endlife, so that's probably (part of?) the problem.

I also read something about "flashing the BIOS" - with a link following. I don't want to try the link shown in the suggestion I read, because it may not be a correct one for my E5540.

Thanx!

The battery won't charge without a recognized AC adapter.  Start there.

1.  Try a new OEM Dell adapter.  if that doesn't solve the problem,

2.  replace the DC jack:

Once the adapter is again recognized, try charging.  If the adapter is still not recognized,

3.  Replace the mainboard.

If you know the battery is on its way out, you will need a new one.

DO NOT flash the BIOS.  This is not a BIOS problem - it's a hardware problem with the adapter, DC jack or mainboard -- and likely the battery as well.
