Hi roadrunner_7a,
It looks like the issue is with the speakers and needs a replacement.
You can check the warranty status here.
If the computer warranty is active, I request you to private message the system service tag number. To private message, accept my friend request; click on my user name and click start conversation.
In case of expired warranty scenario, we would not be able to extend warranty entitled services. If the warranty on the computer has expired, you may contact our Expired Warranty Support (this is for US based customers).
For any clarifications feel free to contact me.

Hi, the first problem is that the microsoft fix it, didn't work, because it shows that the os(win 8) is incompatible yet.
It happens to me also, but it's interesting, because the sound gone while I tried to answer my friend on skype(skype showed me that unable to play the sound via speakers), and now when I try to open a video on youtube it shows me an error on every video. The sound isn't going trough the headspeakers too.

Hello. Please tell us what is your model of Dell laptop. In your "tags" field you put both Inspiron N5010 and Studio 1647. Is it one of those models.
You mentioned Win 8. Is that your operating system? Neither the N5010 or the Studio 1647 was shipped with Win8. Are you having this problem right after installing a new operating system?
You mentioned no sound on Skype and youtube. Did you get any sound when simply playing audio files?

Sorry mine is 5423. And it has been solved after reinstalling the sound driver and rebooting the computer. But issues with missing drivers aren't for first time. Before this I had some issues like this with the synaptics mouse.

Hello Manpreet Singh. You have not yet shared the name of your Dell laptop with us. At the moment all I can say is to install or re-install the audio driver for your model from the Dell page.

Hello,
I have tried reinstalling the drivers & have also tried drivers from other manufacturers as per some recommendations I got online, but nothing works.
My PC Details are : Model - 15R(N5110), Service Tag <ADMIN NOTE: Service tag removed per privacy policy>
(Exact Problem - Sound coming through headphone / external Speakers by Jack, internal speakers are not responding at all, during troubleshooting by windows dialogue everything is fine, diagnosis by 'MY DELL' suite also OK.. I have also checked the limit switch in audio jack that is behaving normally as per visual observation similar to MIC jack)
Kindly suggest if I can somehow fix this.
Regards,
Manpreet Singh

You have the symptoms of a failed sensing circuitry in the headphone jack. See the 1st section of the Headphone Jack FAQ for details about this issue. The solution is to replace the jack circuit board. The part you need is listed in section 4 of the FAQ.

Sorry, I thought you meant it passed diagnostics when you wrote "during troubleshooting by windows dialogue everything is fine, diagnosis by 'MY DELL' suite also OK."
I wrote in the FAQ to use the audio test in Dell Diagnostics, but that the N5110 does not have Dell Diagnostics. The other kinds of tests, like Dell's PC Diagnostics, run in Windows are thus are not valid due to the nature of the problem. Dell Diagnostics is in its own partition (on models that have it) with a non Windows OS and that is why it worked best for this issue.
Here is a non Windows test you should have, the PSA or ePSA. Some versions of the ePSA tests have a ‘Perform Quick Audio Check’ on the bottom right side of the ePSA main menu screen. Use that if you have it. If you don't have the Quick Audio Check, then run the other PSA tests and when it shows you color bars on the screen and asks if you see them, press "N" (meaning No). The test will fail and emit a series of beeps. If you hear the beeps that means that the speakers are connected and working and that you have the sense pin issue.
If you do not hear the beeps when you fail the color bar test, that means that the speakers are not working and have either become disconnected or have failed.

Hello,
During the dell diagnostics no sound is coming through speakers or headphones, as per the FAQ I have some other hardware issue. Can u check what might be the issue or it may be because of loose connection.
Thanks,
Manpreet

Hello, I have tried the bios procedure, beep beep sound is not audible, I had also checked for apparant disconnection of speakers connecting cable to motherboard but that was not the case.
As per my opinion both the speakers should not have failed together, Now I suppose I have no other option but to get the speakers replaced.
Thanks for your help.
Regards,
Manpreet Singh
