stylus pen on Latitude XT Tablet squirrely

my stylus tablet pen is signalling double-click when I only

click once.  When I draw with it, it is intermittent--a line becomes a dotted line

When I switch to finger-touch it is ok. -- any suggestions?

Soak the stylus in motor oil?

Replace that little thing on the end?
