temperature probe ...

I just started getting a msg that says "temperature probe has exceeded a non-critical threshold" ... not sure what I should do.  It's a 2007 Latitude D531 that is out of warranty.

Thanks for any help!

Those temps are not to bad. 50s is Hot, 60s Hotter, 70s Hottest.

Are those the temps after you blew out the vents.

Continue the general maintenance and blow out the vents from time to time

Make sure when you use your computer you put it on a flat surface ie table, desk or tv tray

Do put on your bed or carpet. Do not block the vents for this will cause it to heat up.

Pressing F12 at boot and run diagnostics and test the fan.

Also make sure you have the most current BIOS.

The pre-blow out temps were in the low 50s and high 40s.  After I blew it out and elevated it off the table that I use for the Dell, the temps dropped into the 30s.

I never put it on my lap or bed without a laptop tray.  I will get my son to fix the fans!

Thanks so much for your help!

Your computer is overheating.

Take an air canister and blow out the vents with dust.

You may have to take it apart and clean the heatsink a reapply thermal past to the cpu.

Install i8kfangui and watch temps to see how much they go up.

Post them back here.

Thanks!

Looks like my fans are non-existent.  BTW, what range should the temps be in?

I used the air canister and I'm not getting the error msg, but I obviously need the fans fixed!

temp ranges are from 31 to 48 with a peak at 52.
