Dell Inspiron m5040 laptop start up problem

I've had my laptop for almost a year now and it's ran fine ever since I bought it. However as of yesterday it was working fine and I shut the lid after being on it. Upon returning to the laptop hours later when I tried to turn it on the screen remained blank I then proceeded to turn the laptop off again. This time when it turned on it went to the windows is loading files screen and still would not load my system. After diagnosing it and finding out that there is a problem with the hard drive as I got an 'Error code 2000-0142'. When the diagnosis had completed I then tried to turn the computer back on the next morning and the screen goes black after the dell logo and it starts clicking and now I do not know what to do? Do I need a disc to reinstall windows? I am just stuck at this point.

Since posting the problem a screen came up saying that I have to reinstall windows and use the disc. However, I do not own a disc and this screen only showed once and now when I turn my laptop back on it keeps continuously clicking and naming creaking noises.

Hi Epow,

Thank you for your reply.

Since you saw an error for re-installing windows after the initial problem and the laptop is still making a clicking sound, please run the Dell PC Hard Drive Diagnostics or 32 Bit diagnostics and note the Error Code. Let us know the error code you get or if you do not get one, follow the rest of the steps mentioned in the link below for resolving hard drive noise on your laptop.
