Inspiron 1525 Network Controller driver
My wireless is not working yet. I'm assuming its because Network Controller is not installed yet.
Anyone know how to install the Network Contoller driver for Inspiron 1525?
1) new hard drive installed
2) installed OS from Factory CD
3) I have followed the proper sequence for driver installation
4) I tried drivers using my Service Tag and not using service tag (it installed Ethernet but not the Network Controller)
5) i don't see any manufacturer info or model information in the sysinfo or Control Panel properties
Only way to possibly identify the wireless card is from the card itself and that isn't mush help either:

Any suggestions?

SUCCESS:
I installed these drivers and in this order:
Dell Reinstallation DVD, Windows Vista Home Basic 32BIT SP1
Windows Vista 32BIT SP2
R259999 Dell System Software (DSS)
R166188.EXE Ricoh chipset
R166187.exe Intel chipset
R218148.exe Audio
R180254.EXE Video
R174292.exe Vista wireless driver (network controller)
R167854.EXE Ethernet controller
R286709.exe Touchpad
R180762.exe Quickset
R150152.exe Modem
R147130.EXE Modem Diagnostics
Just need the applications and security.
Thanks for being there!
Most Grateful to natakuc4! your list of drivers and discovering the name of the WIFI card and subsequently finding the Vista driver for it.
Im not sure why I had all the trouble, But I think installing SP2 or installing the Wireless driver before the Ethernet driver had fixed it.

I have installed drivers in this order:
1) DSS - Dell_System-Software_A05_R259999.exe
2) Ricoh chip set - R166188.EXE
3) PCMCIA/Smartcard controller (under Security), there is no Security category for Inspiron 1525
4) Serial ATA, could not find any that apply for new Western Digital HDD
5) Audio - R218148.exe
6) Video - R180254.EXE
7) Network - R167854.EXE (Marvell, only choice given when i enter my Service Tag)
Network Controller has exclamation point in Deveice manager, Wireless does not work.

btfoley,
Did you install the Notebook system utility and the chipset drivers first? If not, the rest of the drivers will fail to install. How to Download and Install Drivers in the Correct Order

btfoley,
Dell System Software and Intel Mobile Chipset and Ricoh R5C833
Marvell 88E80XX 10/100 Ethernet Controller
Go to Dell Warranty Status enter your service tag number. There will be listed the wireless adapter installed on your system.
Go to Drivers & Downloads enter your service tag, select your operating system. Under network, download the drivers for the adapter.
Then download and install Dell Quickset.

I think I found the problem. I hardwired the computer and allowed windows to search for the driver. It returned NO DRIVER found for device "Dell Wireless 1395 WLAN Minicard". Now I finally have the name of the card. ( I see natakuc4 also identified the card by DW1395).
The problem is that the 1395 driver is only available in XP. But the Windows OS license and the sticker of the front state Windows Vista Home.
I tried the R173590.exe Dell Wireless 1390 but it fails.
so natakuc4, is the Driver R173590.exe correct? (in which case I will wipe for a 3rd time and try your list)

DW1395 = Dell Wireless 1395. Note the service tags aren't all working correctly, some are listing wrong and/or incomplete driver sets.
You are missing:
R166187.exe Intel Chipset
R166200 Intel Matrix Storage Manager
R166201 Intel Turbo memory
R150152.exe Conexant Modem*
R173590.exe Dell Wireless 1390
R286709.exe Touchpad
R180762.exe Dell Quickset
R165116.exe Webcam
R230103.exe Dell Webcam Central
Dell Support Centre
I am sure all the drivers above will apply to your system, given you have the DW1390 card. The one marked * I am 99 % sure it will apply, if it doesn't installation will fail. You can install the above to see if the system works.
Ideally you should install the following in order as soon as windows is installed. I recommend performing a clean install as outlined in my wiki A Clean Install of Windows Vista. Download the following to USB stick and install in the correct order:
• Service Pack 1 (x86)
• Service Pack 2 (x86)
• Internet Explorer 9 (x86)
• R259999.exe Dell Notebook Software
• R166187.exe Intel Chipset
• R166188 Ricoh Card Reader
• R180254 Intel GM 965 Video
• R166200 Intel Matrix Storage Manager
• R166201 Intel Turbo memory
• R150152.exe Conexant Modem*
• R167854.exe Ethernet
• R173590.exe Dell Wireless 1390
• R286709.exe Touchpad
• R218148.exe Audio
• R180762.exe Dell Quickset
• R165116.exe Webcam
• R230103.exe Dell Webcam Central
• Dell Support Centre
• Microsoft Security Essentials

How did it fail, did it say the system was incompatible?
Did R173590.exe work?

Just had a look at the XP driver you listed and other compatible systems, then looked at them for Vista drivers. Try instead R174292.exe. Don't know why this one isn't on the drivers and downloads page. It should be as it is more up to date than R173590.exe and listed for your system.

The drivers should work.
Just a small check on the Service Manual, you have the 2 antenna cables in the correct place.
Did the card work in the other computer? Also tap Fn and F2 in case the wifi has been disabled, then retry the reinstall.
