Inspiron 8600

Help Me,

I have the Inspiron 8600 and port replicator.  Whenever I undock with the replicator, my Inspiron will not run on battery power.  It will only run if it is docked with the replicator or AC adaptor only.  Please help me.

Rikitik,

Thank you for using the Dell Community Forum.

The general idea of a port replicator is to make your portable system more like a desktop system.  Update or reset the system BIOS.  You might also try running the Dell diagnostic test on the system while it is inside the port replicator.

I am experiencing the same trouble.  How do you update the System BIOS?  This seems to be an intermittent problem.

I have the same probem with an Inspiron 8500 with the latest firmware (A05). I select undock from within Windows XP. Upon reboot the BIOS thinks it is still docked and doesn't want to start on battery power. XP seems to know it is undocked. When XP starts after plugging in power, the "undock" button is no longer present. Please advise...
