I had this issue and had little faith of it being resolved after reading this post. I did call Dell and get a replacement laptop even though it was a lot of hassle to move all my documents over.

Long story short, it was a success! Not only is the noise gone (I've had the replacement for over a month now), but it seems they may have improved a bunch of other things. For example, the touch pad doesn't retain the grease marks anywhere near as much, the graphics benchmarks I've done are around 15%-20% faster with the same drivers, and there seems to be a different material on the power button.

It seems that they may have done some minor tweaking to the model for the newer laptops.

I'm in the UK

It's the i7-4702HQ, GT 750m, and bios version A05.

I don't know how to tell whether the touch pad is glass or not, they feel practically identical as far as I can tell...it just doesn't hold the grease marks as the last one did. I got the one with the 32GB SSD and 1TB HDD, then swapped out the SSD for a 250GB not that it makes any difference.

I am happy to answer any questions I can, or do any tests you want.

Dell was excellent about the swap...apart from having to swap over my SSD and re-install everything it really was very simple.

I am having an issue with battery life now I've re installed Windows, does anyone know of a drive or software I'm missing that would significantly effect battery life?

I seem to have the same model, i7-4702HQ, GT 750m, 512 GB SSD, 16GB RAM and I'm noticing the coil whine. When I talked to the Dell support they told me that all the models are affected, so a swap would not solve the problem, they just offered me a full refund should they keep being unable to fix it. Not sure what to do now..

are you experiencing coil whine on WINDOWS? or are you just using linux? it's already been reported no coil whine on certain linux distro's probably due to no nvidia optimus support therefore not using the integrated GPU which is coursing the problem.

It sounds like you think that every laptop has coil whine. I can tell you categorically that they don't. The first laptop I received had the whine while the replacement I received definitely doesn't, and I have been using it heavily for almost two months.

Me too :-(. This is a very nice machine, but the sound problem makes it hard to become happy with it. Dell, please provide a solution. I cannot advise people to buy one before this problem has been solved. All other components, quality of the machine is state of the art.
