dell inspiron 1545 cracked screen no OS installed need help installing.

i have a dell inspiron 1545 and want to install windows 7 on it, it had it on there once but due to failure to start i formatted the hard drive on another computer, i then used that computer to reinstall the OS back on it. i tried to put it back in the laptop but it only powered the screen up (it has a cracked screen you can't see anything on) i tried adding a monitor on it through the vga port but it wouldn't power on.

now my question is, is there a way to transfer the screen start up to the vga monitor other than the on board screen without replacing the whole screen itself? a new screen for the laptop costs about 200.

Press FN + F1 or just F1 at powerup - you might have to try both options....I have the same laptop - so I know it works...
