The most common reason of error code 0146 due to overcharging the battery or fluctuation in power supply. It will directly impact your hard disk and cause it to fail or become corrupt. I have found video tutorial that has further information to resolve the problem completely. I just want to share the video with you
We have had our Dell Inspiron 1546 for three years. Lately I have been getting the error : 2000- 00 0146 and nothing I do will clear it up. Why am I getting this error. I am running System Pro and it still will not repair. I have searched the forum but have not seen any answers but there are several inquiry's. How can this be repaired?
The Error 2000-0146 doesn’t means that the hard drive has gone bad, but it is going bad. Error code: 2000-0146 (DST Log contains previous errors) refers to previous errors in the hard drive which might not really be a hardware failure. Please try the following steps:
Re-seat the Hard Drive. Before performing the steps, read and follow the safety instructions in Dell Knowledge Base Article: "Precautionary Measures for Personal Safety". Remove all power sources including AC Adapter and Battery before you remove or re-install an item in your computer. Please see the Service manual for instructions on how to remove and replace the Hard Drive: http://bit.ly/1fjwYjA
After re-seating the Hard Drive re-run the diagnostics and check the functionality.
If you get the same error code, the hard drive needs to be replaced.
**Note: If the computer is able to boot into Windows you should back up your important data and files.

The hard drive has failed - you will need a new, 2.5" 9.5 or 7 mm SATA notebook drive.
