Homeb0x,
The maximum memory for the Inspiron 14R(N4010) is 8Gb. You can use either two (4GB) DDR3 PC3-8500 or two (4Gb) DDR3 PC3-10600 Non-ECC RAM modules. Memory for the 14R(N4010) is available here:

I too have an Inspiron N4010 (running Windows 7 Home Premium) and need to upgrade the RAM. I notice above it is stated the maximum memory for this model is 8gb. However, I looked read on crucial.com (full link below) that with Windows 7 Home Premium the computer will recognize up to 16gb of RAM. Does this mean I can put 16gb of RAM in my laptop? Thanks!

I've the same model of laptop. I tried 2x4GB ram but system is crashing every time. I've Windows 8.1 Pro installed.
Also, can I use single 8GB ram? Specific RAM model is here.

U need to use 4 GB ram with 256 x 16 nanochip with 204 pins
Mostly we use 512 x 8 nano chip with 240 pins which doesn't work
After loads of research I was able to replace mine without any error
This laptop only support maximum 256 MB nano chip

I hope this string will pop up to most recent date because I'm struggling with wjths similar situation on my 4010. Currently the unit has 2- 2gb 1Rx8 ddr3 pc3-10600 ram sticks. For Christmas I wanted to speed up the ram so I bought 2 sticks of identical RAM of the referenced model above only difference being there 2 - 4gb sticks instead and when I install them my computer will hardly start up before it shuts itself off. Assuming I'm dealing with the whole 512 x 8nanochip memory. Is there a easy way to tell if I'm buying the 256 x 16 nanochip instead? This is my second purchase of ram for this machine and I've replaced Ram in plenty of machines over the years and never once did I have a problem like I'm having with mine. Thanks for any help in advance!!
