Canmot update dell latitude e5510 bios

I have a Dell latitude e5510 that I am working on at the moment and its BIOS badly needs updating .its on A07 and the latest is A16 . I understand I cannot update it to A16 without updating it to A10. So I downloaded A10 from Dell website. Click on A10 exe update file and message comes up about updating BIOS and leaving ac adaptor in then a quick blue bar across ... and then that's it , absolutely nothothing. No update window pops up or anything. And just stays on A07 bios

Hello all an Update for you - Solved!

in the end I created a bootable USB stick and copied the A10 EXE file to the bootable USB and used the one time boot . I am so used to updating Dells normally inspiron's , in windows at thats what I was trying to do initially

thank you - there does not appear to be a BIOS A08 to download and I have tried A09 and it does the same thing , does not update.

its almost like maybe there is a 'BIOS WRITE PROTECT' in the Bios somewhere but i have gone through every setting in BIOS and cannot find anything to do with bios write protect.

Could there maybe be a Jumper on the laptop main board to protect BIOS write?

Welcome to the Dell Community @andyr123

Try resetting the CMOS first???

Disconnect the AC adapter.

Remove the Main battery.

Remove bottom Access cover.

Disconnect the CMOS/BIOS Coin Cell battery.

Hold down the power button for 10-15 seconds.

Reconnect the Coin Cell battery.

Replace the Access cover.

Replace the Main battery.

Turn right-side up and open the display lid.

NOW connect the AC adapter.

The system should automatically try to boot 3 times.

After a successful boot shut down and then try to update the BIOS to A10.

Best regards,

Thank you for the reply. Just reset the laptop there by taking out CMOS battery and holding down power switch . Started up laptop pressed f1 to continue , started windows , clicked on A10 exe file same thing again , not going into BIOS update window says plug in ac adaptor etc and then blue bar and nothing happens

@andyr123

Sorry for not posting this earlier but I was distracted.

First method:

Create a new folder on your desktop named “BIOS Update”

Then download your BIOS update.

Copy the update to that folder you just created.

Close all Windows and Apps you may have open.

Go to the folder and right click on the update file and “Run as Administrator”

Second method:

Create a bootable USB drive using “Rufus”

https://rufus.ie/

Copy the BIOS update to the bootable USB drive you just created..

Insert USB drive, power-on and start tapping the “ F12 “ key.

Boot from USB and run the BIOS update.

After reboot test and post any results.

Best regards,

U2

Go into Setup.  Does the AC adapter and its power rating show up, or is the AC adapter showing "not installed" or "unknown"?

F2 at powerup.
