DCU version 4.1.0 unable to retrieve system inventory information on Latitude E6230

I'm running Win 10 Pro, 64-bit OS on my Latitude E6230 and lately the Dell Command Update will not complete and displays: "unable to retrieve system inventory information." I've uninstalled & re-installed both Dell-Command-Update-Application-for-Windows-10_DF2DT_WIN_4.1.0_A00 and Dell-Command-Update-Application_P5R35_WIN_4.1.0_A00 execution files with no luck. Any suggestions please?

I'd seen one mention of Windows Defender and swagnerjj had mentioned uninstalling AV- "then DCU runs fine, clearly this isn't a solution."  This was back in mid-March.  Also said "6 agents and 90 minutes later im told that they cant help me and cant tell me what directories / services need to be allowed."  If their application is mimicking a threat they need to fix it.

I spoke with someone on the Dell engineering team and confirmed there is an outage.  I'll repost when we hear more info.  I also created a spiceworks article here: https://community.spiceworks.com/topic/2313965-dell-command-update-down?page=1#entry-9144547

I have just noticed that the file InvColPC (C:\Program Files (x86)\Dell\UpdateService\Service) on my system was created on 6th April 2021, and the following day Dell Update started and continues to fail. All other files in the directory appear to be unchanged since 19th January, the date version 4.1.0 was installed.

This file is causing the error apparently if you check log too,
The Software is unable to retrieve inventory information

Thank you for this info. I have forwarded the info about the InvColPC.exe to the Dell support team I'm working with.  Still down this morning.

@00042

Have you checked the modification date of the file since running Dell Update? I'm curious as to whether running the Update app causes the file to be replaced. In my case the modification date (06/04/2021) of InvColPC.exe corresponds to the last date I ran the Update app successfully.

I'm not particularly tech savvy but thought I'd mention that when I restored my computer from a 3/01/21 image file the restored invColPC.exe file was date modified on 1/22/21 and did not resolve the problem.

It would be interesting to know. Could you check the date?

In the post by @Official Fiberking his file modified date is the same as mine (06/04/2021) but the time is exactly one hour ahead. That would make sense, because I live in the UK and I assume from the language in his posted image that he is in The Netherlands (Holland), which is one time zone ahead of the UK. I don't believe we could have run Dell Update at exactly the same time in the middle of the night, so the file replacement must have happened the first time each of us ran the Update app after Dell had changed something!

Immediately after restoring the March, 2021 image file, I ran Dell Update program with the files on the older image and got the error message.  I did not check to see if the file had been updated after running Update.

I am having the same problem today, brand new Optiplex Ultra 7070, had this message on v4.0.0 that was preinstalled and 4.1.0, same on SupportAssist too. I went to the Dell download site, put in my service tag and used the online scanner which helped with some updates but nowhere near as convenient and I think it missed some updates too as only said I needed 2.
