Dell 7280 1366x768 to FHD
Hi,
I like my Dell except the screen is the cheapest one. There are FHD-spares available and the replacement instructions are in the operating manual. So this upgrade should be OK without expected issues?

H-N,
You should be fine installing the LCD without issues if you follow the instructions in the manual.

Jesse L,
Thank you for your prompt response and for the superb answer!
I did this upgrade today. It took about 2 hours as the instructions in the user guide are not very specific
(The image displayed is for reference only. Some components location and screw may vary :-D )
However the PC booted up in FHD native resolution without any tweaking of settings. I just did the Windows 10 color calibration and now it is spot on.
Spent about $100 and two hours of time for this. The screen changed from the crappy TN 1366*768 to a premium IPS 1920*1080. Well worth the money and trouble :-)

Hi,
really impressed that you got it working.
I have the 7280 also with the 1366 panel and i've been looking at the screen and i hope you can clarify some queries.
- Do you a photo of the back panel of the 1920 panel? Is the lcd part number NV125FHM-N41?
- It seems that lcd panels come without the bezels. Did you have to get a new front bezel for the lcd?
- The connector positions for the edp for both panels seem different. For the 1366 panel it is on the left side and the 1920 on the right side. Did you have to get a new cable or did you use the existing one?

Thanks.!

Hi, thanks for the original post, Had enough information to attempt the exchange.
The exchange from hd TN to fullhd IPS is a huge improvement, lighting, brightness, viewing angles, and uniformity are substantially better.
Bought the panel from aliexpress:
https://www.aliexpress.com/item/Free-shipping-new-For-BOE-NV125FHM-N41-NV125FHM-N41-12-5-1920X1080-FHD-Matte-30Pin-LED/32950918910.html?spm=a2g0s.12269583.0.0.206c752bva79PK
Here are some photos with the original panel removed (still with glue)
Replacement was straightforward. just carefully removed the bezel which has some glue with the display. removed the two screws on the bottom and disconnected the edp connector.
Installation was very simple with the reversal of the steps.
Screen resolution is correct on bios and on windows with no need to change the resolution or refresh rate.
Original panel on the right (glue on edges)top panel is the original.

Hi!
I have a Dell Latitude 7290, similar to the 7280 but with some minor processor updates; wonder if this screen upgrade will work, by the look of the 7280 and the 7290 everything seems similar but i'm not sure about the screw position (bottom only or in every square), also not sure about the cable as you mention earlier. Any help would be appreciated, this small laptop deserves a good full hd screen!

Thanks Amirseni for sharing the photos and similar good experience as I had.
Regarding a similar project for the Dell 7290, I really don't know if it will be as smooth. But I encourage everyone to give it a try as the 1366*768 screen really is a crappy one and ruins the otherwise quite good laptop. FHD IPS -panel will make a significant difference. Dell shouldn't even offer a model with a 1366*768 screen in 2019, but for some reason they do.

I was acting as guinea pig and started a trial to replace the 1366*768 screen with a 1080p FHD panel on the Latitude 7290. I can confirm it was possible without any issue or additional workaround. I just ordered a 12.5" panel and relaced it as described in the handbook. The display came up with the 1920*1080 resolution automatically after reboot.
Just in my case, I ordered a display compatible to the 7270 which has the mounting links right and left of the panel and not at the bottom. Therefore, I was not able to fix it with the 2 screws as originally. Even thought, this is no issues at all in practice you might order a panel which is really appropriated for the 7280 to have the flaps at the right place.

Hi Mate,
I am using the Dell 7290 as well and am looking for a suitable 12.5inch panel. I noticed that the panel mentioned by the others were NV125FHM-N41, and I found a NV125FHM-N62 in my local shop. Do you think the panel will fit?
What I noticed is that the panel does not have the screw hinges at the bottom and is taken out of a Lenovo X250.
Please guide me in this journey as well guys. I just dont want to waste the money and the effort.
Thanks!

To get this in the next level - has anybody tried replacing 12.5" to 13" ( taken from 7390 ) on 7290 ?
With/without lid replacement and the parts around

Even though this thread is two years old, maybe someone ist interested to know, that it is possible to replace/upgrade a 7280/7290 display to a 7390.
I changed a complete display including frame and hinges. Everthing fits perfectly without any adjustments.
