E5450 Bios A19 + E Port Plus serial port missing

This is something i noticed with Bios A18 as well.  When i upgrade to A19, the com1 port on my E-Port Plus disappears - it's not listed as unknown device, nor does it appear like a device that cannot start or doesn't have the correct driver.  As soon as i downgrade to Bios A15, it appears again.

This is actually critical for my job, where I end up spending a lot of time configuring network equipment, and i do not want my usb to com adapter to go missing.

@DELL-Justin C many thanks for your reply.

Just to remember you my product model is E7450 not 5450

@MauroP,

I didn't notice yours was the E7450. I've replicated the behavior on a E7450 just now and am submitting this to Dell engineering.

I'll update when I know more.

Hello,

is there any update regarding this issue ? We have several cases in the company where we need to downgrade BIOS to have the COM Port working.

Thank you

Andreas

What's the story on this?  its been 3 months since this issue was made known to engineering and a month since you've replied...  Is engineering even working on this anymore?  It would be nice to have this issue resolved!

@MauroP @ZEW,

There's been a delay as a result of the following issue: http://www.dell.com/support/contents/us/en/19/article/product-support/self-support-knowledgebase/software-and-downloads/speculative-store-bypass

I'm expecting multiple fixes, including the serial port update, to all come out in a new round of BIOS updates. Possibly sometime within the next 30 days.

I'll be back when I know more.

Any updates for the 7450?  I have experienced this as well.

@jmarino123,

Here's the latest:

Latitude E5450: New BIOS should be posted within the next 2 weeks

Latitude E7450: Dell Support trying to obtain an ETA from engineering

I will post back when I have it.

I have the same problem on my E5550 with the A19 bios.

I will be downgrading but in my opinion it takes a long time to resolve the issue...

@RuudjeNL,

Thank you for your report. I've added the 5550 to my internal case and will update you as soon as I know more.

@sville72,

No new updates but I believe the new BIOS will be coming out sometime before September. I've summed up below:

Latitude E5450: New BIOS should be posted within the next week ( subject to change )

Latitude E5550: Dell technical support to report this to Dell engineering and replicate in house

Latitude E7450: Dell Support trying to obtain a more firm ETA from engineering
