E6440 - entry point error when installing drivers
Trying to reinstall Windows 7 pro 64bit on an E6440 that had a failed hard drive. New SSD installed, original Windows 7 Pro DVD used to reinstall. Installation went fine. However, whenever I try to install any of the Dell drivers, I get the following error:
"The procedure entry point AddDllDirectory could not be located in the dynamic link library KERNAL32.dll"
I get this error no matter which driver I try - chipset, video, sata, network, whatever. I can't get a single Dell driver to install.
Here's what I have tried so far.
1. Wiped drive and reinstalled Windows from scratch. Same result.
2. Downloaded SP1 from microsoft (from a working computer) and installed on the E6440. Installed without a problem. Still getting the entry point error.
3. Tried running SFC /scannow. Found no errors.
4. Tried booting off Windows install DVD, then running SFC /scannow using the installation media for reference. Found no errors.
5. Ran chkdsk /f. Found no errors.
6. Ran Dell diagnostics that is built in to the BIOS. Found no errors.
I've been working on computers for a long time and have not come across something like this. Because I can't get any drivers to install, I can't get any internet on the E6440, so I can't run any of the Dell online diagnostics. I'm out of ideas.
Does anyone have an idea?
Thanks
Mary G

Don't forget to reinstall win 7 SP1 since the original install disk doesn't have it. See this old thread-- https://forum.kodi.tv/showthread.php?tid=281419&pid=2372265
Win 7 sp1 update-- save a copy on disk or thumb drive for future installs.

Be aware that support for windows 7 ends Jan 14, 2020

I got this resolved using the KB from this article. https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/desktop/api/libloaderapi/nf-libloaderapi-adddlldirectory

I am having the same issue on a Latitude E6320 with Windows 7 Pro SP1 installed. Unfortunately, the KB from the link did not work for my OS ("The update is not applicable for your computer")

Worked for me!
Sidenote: A reboot is required.

I am not certain what the KB is saying. Can someone please post an example of the command to run and in this a command line fix or is there a file that needs editing.

in this case, you need to install Windows 6.1-KB2533623 from Microsoft, then you can install dell driver,

This worked for me today, 11/12/2019 when rebuilding my Dell Latitude E6440 from scratch. I too needed the correct URL link for Windows 7, Pro, SP1 x64 BIT.
