Latitude 7285 SSD form facto

The user guide seems to make it look like the ssd Size is M. 2 2230. Is that correct?

Yes, that is correct - there aren't anywhere near as many in that size as the larger M.2 2280, but that smaller size is all you can install in the 7285.

Hi - i currently have my 7285 apart for the installation of a 2nd ssd which is proving very hard to find. However i measure the 2nd slot at 2240 in size. Im currently testing to see what does and doesnt fit. Ive tried a 2280 in the slot and while it physically wont fit it does plug in the slot but is not recognized. Can anyone at Dell help with the sourcing and possibly purchase of a 2nd ssd? (the bigger the better) 512gb minimum are my requirements but a 1tb would be perfect.

Try one of the big online sellers.  Toshiba had/has a 480G 2242 SSD -- that's about the largest I've ever seen.

Hi - not wanting to disagree but the measurement (looking at my tablet now) measures 40mm but thats not to say that a physically smaller drive wont fit as ive tried the boot drive (the smaller physical drive) which does boot and work off that slot. However they wont be able to secure the drive with a screw. It is my opinion that a 2260 drive would also probably work again, but you wont be able to secure it with a screw.

It more of a statement to say that the end user (if someone reads this) would have a few more options than they originally thought.

Hi @Comfy

I can confirm that the physical size is 2230. The largest capacity of this form factor that Dell ships with any system is 512GB and there are four part numbers listed as compatible with the 7285:

PXCTW - SAMSUNG PM971 512G PCIE NVME 2230 SSD

88T9N -  TOSHIBA BG2d 512G PCIE NVME 2230 SSD

704F3 - TOSHIBA BG3 512G PCIE NVME 2230 SSD

RM7RK - HYNIX BC501 512G PCIE NVME 2230 SSD

You would need to speak to somebody from the sales team in your region to find out about pricing and availability. If you go to the Dell home page for your country there should be a sidebar on the right hand side of the page, click on that for contact options.

I don't see anything other than a 2230 drive fitting, bearing in mind that it needs to have the protective cover in place.

Hope you got through since your last post. I'm sorry but I don't have access to stock details.
