Latitude 7480 SupportAssist not installing

Hi, today the SupportAssist on my Latitude 7480 can't install some BIOS and driver updates. In the beginning there were 5 updates to be installed. Due to stuck at "Verifying", I closed SupportAssist, downloaded one of them and installed manually. Then I uninstalled SupportAssist and reinstalled it, it then showed 3 updates (including a latest BIOS update). This time it downloaded and installed 2 updates, but the BIOS update was never installed. I tried to uninstall and reinstall SupportAssist again, Now the BIOS update is showing "Installing", but no installation window/notification appeared. It worked fine before. I saw many similar posts regarding SupportAssist not installing updates around the forum. What's wrong with it?

Hi Jekyll Chen,

Update the system BIOS directly using the link https://www.dell.com/support/home/us/en/19/product-support/product/latitude-14-7480-laptop/drivers

Try uninstalling the Support assist using any uninstaller available(Which can help you removing any registery files stored) restart the system and install it back using https://www.dell.com/support/contents/us/en/04/article/product-support/self-support-knowledgebase/software-and-downloads/supportassist.

Hi Parnoshree,

I know where I can download BIOS and how to install it manually. I'm just reporting the issue that SupportAssist does not work as expected while it did months ago.

I tried to uninstall SupportAssist with IObit Uninstaller, then reinstalled SupportAssist. The BIOS update still stuck there.

Is there still anything I can do to solve this problem?

Thank you.

Hi Jekyll Chen,

Can you try udpating or using support assist in safe mode with networking to see if that works.

The SupportAssist terminated within seconds while executing in safe mode.

Hi Jekyll Chen,

Do you get any error or pop up when the support assist is trying to load? Can you try uninstalling the support assist in safe mode and reinstalling.

Hi Jekyll,

Can you try to install the BIOS update from outside OS? Please check https://dell.to/2Eo2NO3 for the steps on how to flash the BIOS from One time boot menu.

Regarding the Support Assist please check the video https://dell.to/2Pu6Vmb but do note that the issue you might be facing might be different. You can try the steps mentioned here to see if this helps.

There's no error and/or warning message. The installation just stuck at "installing..." for hours, and nothing was done.

"Windows Installer" service cannot be started in safe mode, so that I can't uninstall SupportAssist in safe mode.

Don't you have a log file or something for trouble shooting?

Hi,

I do believe updating with other methods would succeed, including running the BIOS update file and updating outside Windows. I'm just curious why SupportAssist on my laptop suddenly stopping working, and want to report this issue to you so that you can solve this and improve your software.

I checked the video you provided regarding cleanly uninstall and reinstall SupportAssist, and it doesn't help.

Can you private message us the service tag of the system along with the Windows version installed? Was there any recent software update prior to Support Assist stopped working?
