Latitude E4310 long time identifying wireless networks

Hi Dell Community!

My issue is the long time taken for my wireless adapter to identify and connect to wireless networks.  It connects with limited connectivity straight away but then sits there with the yellow exclamation mark in the wireless taskbar icon for 7-8 minutes before identifying and connecting.  I wouldn't mind, except that I work freelance and might connect in three or four places in one day (cafés, libraries, home) so the time wasted starts to get a bit frustrating.

I have tried to address this myself but the problem still stands.  Below is a list of steps I have taken.  If anyone has had a similar experience or has a potential solution I haven't thought of, please let me know.

Many thanks.

Spec:

  • OS: Windows 7 Home Premium
  • Wireless Adapter: Intel(R) Centrino(R) Advanced-N 6200 AGN
  • Other: Intel PROSet Wireless Manager

Steps taken so far:

  1. Ran Dell Support Assistant and updated all out-of-date laptop drivers including BIOS
  2. Installed Dell Update which confirmed everything up to date.
  3. Tried managing wireless with and without Intel PROSet (no difference).
  4. Switched off "Allow computer to turn off this device to save power" in device manager.
  5. Played around with Intel PROSet settings then reverted to original settings.
