WD19 docking stations - network dropout, USB dropout across multiple models

We are facing issues with WD19s losing Ethernet connections pretty consistently and also USB dropping out randomly throughout the day.

This happens with our latitude 5400 laptops.

The issue persists after we had the motherboard and other parts replaced, 3 new WD19's, and fresh installs of OEM image and latest BIOS and drivers on laptop and dock.

The issue does NOT occur with the WD15 dock and 5400 latitude.

Dell indicated moths ago there would be an August update of the docks firmware. This has not been released.

Has Dell acknowledged this as a known issue ?- there seems to be multiple posts with this same issue with other laptop models.

We were planning on purchasing this model for our fleet...

Dell, any comment?

It's 1/21/2021 - Is this issue resolved?  If we buy a WD19 station, do we have to update the firmware/bios?

Today I'm reporting that after much testing, the issues appear to be fixed.

Download and run the Dell Command Updates. Let all the drivers and firmware run. Once it reboots, the nic, usb3 drop, and secondary camera disconnect are all good.

If you had the monitor flickering issue, you will need to go into the monitor properties and change the Hertz from 29 to 60.

Do you know what specifically, that dell command updates is applying that fixes it? wondering if we can narrow it down to a specific driver or firmware rather than running dell command update on thousands of laptops.

Also, do you know if the fix is documented anywhere?

Thunderbolt and BIOS update didn't help at all. Same problems like before.

Same issue here with WD19TB and WD19 on Latitude 5501 and Precision 5520 and sporadicly with other Latitude and Precision models. Both USB and Thunderbolt connection is affected, so it seems to be a problem with Realtek Ethernet hardware or driver and/or USB section of dockings.

Dell should fix this from scratch but it seems that they (and/or their partners) have no technical qualification in that because they had same problems before with TB15/TB16/WD15 and it seems that they nothing learned from it...

Hi,

I have the same issue with a Dell Latitude 7490 and a WD15. With a WD19TB the problem does not exist for me, but i have another Problem (I have to reboot to connect the WD19TB to the 4790...). So, I need a solution for the WD15...

Hallo

@Dell-Alan D

I get this error "USB device not recognized" from time to time. Suddenly notebook's fan start to work louder and then USB drops and that message apears.

All updates have been made on both notebook dell xps 9500 and wd19

Also I swiched to off properties for PCI Express in Power Options

What helps me to make USB on is to switch wd19 cable one port to another so windows can install devices again

But it is not solid solution to this problem.

This is a MAJOR ISSUE.

Is someone using a Logitech webcam connected to the dock? I changed my webcam by another vendor and until now, the problems seem to disappeared.

Anyone else notice the ping spikes?

Pinging a local device will be >1ms, but suddenly spike to 15ms pretty regularly, does not happen with other devices, just the dock connected.
